NOBODY ASKED ME, BUT...

Letters; I get letters! Thanks to everyone for sending me your "pet peeves". Here is just a sampling...

A lady said, "...contrary to tradition, I hold a door open for EVERYONE and seldom get a thank you!"...

"Time Warner, who justifies their raises of my cable rates by saying they have added more foreign language stations."...

"Drivers, who don't know how to drive in the rain and pass you because you are slowing down for the upcoming red light"...

"Tubes of toothpaste, who keep me from getting every last drop."...

"Clerk or cashiers, who just stare at you instead of saying, 'May I help you'"...

I also get letters on other subjects. For example, one reader wrote, "How much do you have to pay the Independent to have your column printed?" And, "You write a good column but don't quit your day job!"...

Someone told me there was no street sign at Beach and Yorktown. I investigated and I couldn't find one of those hanging street signs that the other streets have. I intend speaking with my friend Les Jones, Director of Public Works on the subject...

I think it's smart of school district officials in Fountain Valley to take a survey of parents at Moiola School to suggest to the Trustees how to change the school, if at all. The debate is whether Moiola will stay K-8 or become a K-5 and send 6-8 grade students to a middle school...

Last week, the ABC television network was fined for telling us the truth about the food in some supermarkets. I don't agree with the millions that ABC was fined and I expect the fine will be overturned on appeal...

What's your favorite word? Pat's says, "enthusiasm" is her favorite; mine is "why". What's yours? Write to me on my E-Mail (tvmm62b@prodigy.com) and let me know...

Can't the Fountain Valley Police Department, through their City Council, work out an agreement to but new Police cars in Huntington Beach (Fountain Valley has no car dealerships, YET) instead of Los Angeles County? The sales tax would help even if the sale was in Orange instead of LA Counties...

What has happened to this world? Pat Boone, the white bucks, milk-drinking guy who always sang about the girl next door, has become a tattooed, ear-ring, heavy metal dummy who now wants everyone to pierce their navel. What anyone wouldn't do for a buck...

Come on folks. I agree with Mayor Bauer in his attempt to "clean up" Council Comments at meetings in which we, the public, are allowed to voice our opinion. I think the comments have deteriorated into name calling of city employees, et.al. Like a friend once said to me, pick on issues not individuals...

Wasn't it refreshing for the National Football League (NFL) to have the Green Bay Packers win the Super Bowl. It was nice to see a team that loves each other as well as all their fans, win. But, (you knew there would be a "but"), like the very old song goes, "How You Goin' A Keep 'Em Down On The Farm (Green Bay), After They Seen Parree (the Super Bowl)"?...

Glad to see Mayor Ralph Bauer of Huntington Beach agree that the Shoreline (Huntington Beach) Marathon held the morning of Super Bowl Sunday, was a benefit for HB. Too Bad it rained that morning and had few spectators. And, is it true that HB lost over $10,000 on the race?...

Last year, the most popular names of newborns in Orange County were Jessica and Daniel; beats Lulu and Montgomery. And last year, we Americans spent over 1 Billion dollars for scented candles. Were they for light or smell?...

I wondered why City Council people didn't just walk out of closed Council sessions if they felt that discussing certain issues would be a violation of the Brown Act. I wondered (past tense) until it was explained to me that leaving the closed session was like leaving the "hen house to be guarded by the wolf"..
