NOBODY ASKED ME, BUT...

JANUARY 23
I was pleased to see the Fountain Valley City Council
give an award of recognition and a street named
"Stanton Way" to Roger Stanton the other night.
Mr. Stanton retired after 16 years as Orange County's 1st
District Supervisor and 21 years of being a strong
advocate of FV. We will all miss you Roger, especially me
who now has to find another county supervisor to pick
on...
The other day, I saw a sign in a Brookhurst Florist shop
that read, "Smoking and forgetting Valentine's Day
can be hazardous to your health."... In my opinion, Proposition 209, the
anti-Affirmative Action proposition, after being passed
by the majority of Californians, will be over-turned by
the Supreme Court and politicians will continue to wonder
why some of us think voting for anything or anyone is a
waste of time...
I met with Tom Livengood,
President of Amigos de Bolsa Chica, and was pleased to
hear that elected officials will no longer be asked to
serve on the board of Amigos. In the past years, Amigos
has forgotten that they represent all the
"non-important" people of Huntington Beach in
saving Bolsa Chica. Good luck Amigos in asking the State
to transfer 880 acres to the State Lands Commission for
preservation instead of home building...
A very wise woman (my wife)
once said to me, "Many a new leaf that one has
turned over for the new year has, by the end of January,
started to fall."...
For Christmas, I bought a Gift
Certificate in the South Coast Plaza Mall that permits a
shopper to buy anything in any store. Pat, for some
unheard of reason, could not find what she wanted in that
whole place. I attempted to return the certificate to no
avail. The Mall said I must spend the Gift Certificate in
their stores. Next week, I will tell you how I solved the
problem...
The Shoreline (Huntington
Beach) Marathon will be run this Super Bowl Sunday,
January 26, starting at 7.00am at the Pier. The city has
closed off Pacific Coast Highway from Beach to Warner,
approximately 5 miles, to give the runners a better
route. This closure, will no doubt inconvenience many
travelers and beach-goers, but the publicity for the city
for this annual event will more than compensate for the
inconvenience...
I hope my children, David and
Susan, both married for over 1 and 2 years respectively,
will have something "cooking" for Pat and me
this year...
And speaking of something
"cooking", did you read that young women of
child bearing age are being encouraged to be artificially
inseminated by current sport stars in order to produce
NEW sport stars in the future...
Did you know, that the street
signs in Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley are
different? For example, along Magnolia Street in HB, the
signs are blue with white lettering but when one keeps
traveling along Magnolia into FV, the signs become white
with black lettering. It makes it easier for dummies like
me to figure out what city I'm in...
A good friend of mine said he
felt like a nudist when he tried to stop smoking; he
didn't know what to do with his hands...
I know that I'm going to lose
many readers when I say this but I think Moiola School in
Fountain Valley should NOT stay a K-8 school. Moiola
should be K-5 with the children getting a Middle school
for the 6, 7 and 8 grades before going to the more
difficult high school. It's extremely strange for a
student going from a "child's" elementary
school to an "adult's" high school without a
slow transition in between...
Pat and I have been married for
over 30 years. Friends ask what is the secret to a long
and successful marriage. I tell them that Pat and I have
an equal partnership. She works and earns money to
support this family, does the shopping, cooking,
cleaning, laundry, ironing and other various chores
around the house, and I do my part. I appreciate it!...
